John Lawson, Batchler, died. His Will. His sister is Agnes who is married to John Richardson of Newbiggin and has five children. His sister Mardoline is married to ? Graye and has four children. George, his brother, of Ulgham, is Executor and residual legatee. He has three godsons: John Pace, Cuthbert Grayme son of Richard, and John Straker. The estate totalled £27/4/8d including many debts owed to the deceased. . John of Linton borrowed 20/- which is owed to the estate, plus 11/- owing for a sheep. Robert of Newbiggin owes the estate 20/-. Witnesses to the will are Robert Pace, Christopher Robinson, Thomas Potts, Thomas Hunter and Richard Johnson. (DRO T.Inv.)

George is named as tenant; he was accused of letting the yard dickes lye down, and having a swine unringed, and his wife was held bond for 4 men breaking dykes. (Court Rolls).

George Lawson complained against Thomas Watson for slandering him and saying that he beggard Margaret Gray and her children and would beggar her sister and her children also (Court Rolls).
